“I am a being of Heaven and Earth, of thunder and lightning, of rain and wind, of the galaxies.” – Eden Ahbez
Did you know that the average number of daily lightning strikes on our earth is an astonishing 8.6 MILLION? That’s daily folks!!! That’s quite a powerful recharging of Mother Earths’ batteries, with 100 million to a billion volts or so in each bolt. It’s no wonder we are also electrical beings; with every heartbeat, a little impulse sends life force through us.
So…. what is it, where does it come from, and where does all the electricity go? Well, I’m still getting a power bill, so it’s not coming to my house. Here’s a brief explanation of all the above: Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between the clouds and the earth, it is a static charge created by the movement of wind, and rain droplets or ice crystals; this rubbing makes the static charge in the cloud when the charge in the earth gets strong enough, the cloud releases the energy in a bolt, it can go from cloud to ground, or cloud to cloud. Once the bolt and the ground connect the electrons flow down from the cloud, and the positive charges flow from the ground to the cloud. The charge dissipates into the surface of the earth. Then the thunder rolls.
“If I accept the sunshine and warmth, then I must also accept the thunder and lightning.”—Khalil Gibran
Thunderstorm with dark clouds and lightning over the Arizona desert.
When the lightning’s heat enters the earth’s surface at 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 5x hotter than the sun. It melts and fuses the minerals into branching structures that mimic the bolt. They can be solid or tubular, long and thick as your arm, or just the small fingertip size. These are called Fulgurites.
What are the metaphysical properties of the Fulgurite?
As you may have guessed, they are an extremely high-energy instrument for awakening us to our life purpose. Valued as a shamanic tool for powerful clearing and enhancing intuition, connecting the earth and the heavens. I personally love them as a protective force and, as an ignitor, or re-ignition for inspiration or love stone.
“Lightning strikes the earth and thunder heralds the doom, but the earth bears it all in silence, teaching us that life may be harsh to us, but we shouldn’t be so to life.” –Tista Ray
Now that you’ve been introduced, I encourage you to bring some lightning into your life with a Fulgurite and feel what it’s like to hold a bolt of it, be careful and hang on, you may just get blown away!
